JILYA World Suicide Prevention Day Concert

Client | The Westerman Jilya Institute

Location | UWA’s Winthrop Hall

On World Suicide Prevention Day The Jilya Institute shines a spotlight on the alarming fact that Indigenous children die by suicide at six times the rate of non-Indigenous children. The Jilya Institute is committed to increasing the number of Indigenous Psychologists in Australia to combat this issue at the coalface, utilising professionals who understand the culture of the people they’re administering support to. Their World Suicide Prevention Day Concert raises funds for this cause.

In the majesty of UWA’s Winthrop Hall, we prepared for several of Western Australia’s most gifted singers to perform to over 700 hundred guests. Hosted by Tina Altieri, following a Welcome to Country including a dance performance by Corrobboree for Life, the line-up encompassed the soulful sounds of Naomi Pigram & Kin, Gina Williams AM & Guy Ghouse, Bojesse Pigram, and Kobi Morrison, who sang well known songs in Indigenous language. The showstopper to end the night was superstar, John Butler. Guests felt an immense sense of privilege to be in this beautiful setting, hearing tales about his travels, growing up, and of course, witness his extraordinary musical repertoire. All of the artists clearly felt moved to be part of the concert for such an important outcome, and spoke about as much between performances.

Aside from the music, the crowd highlight was hearing from Jilya founder, Dr Tracy Westerman and three of her scholarship recipients. The brilliance of the concert was juxtaposed with very strong messaging for action and change and doing better in our Australian community.

Known Associates Australia was honoured to manage artists, food, beverage and stying sponsorship and delivery, programming, production, ticketing, on-screen content, live-streaming and all VIP functions. Many thanks to the wonderful suppliers Olios Fine Foods, Howard Park Wines, Madfish, Otherside Brewery, and Event Artillery.

It was a true privilege to support such a meaningful, exceptional event. We can see it growing to much bigger heights as the years go by.
